COMING OF AGE GROUP, a group for women 60+

IN 2018, THERE WILL TWO COMING OF AGE GROUPS:
The first group will meet on Wednesday afternoons from 2 PM – 4 PM.
The second group will meet on Wednesday evenings from 7 PM – 9 PM.

The Coming of Age Group is in its 3rd cycle and the work continues to deepen. The group is a safe place for women 60+ to explore their issues and enjoy the openings and connections that accompany such work. The circle is now open to new members for the 2018 Winter/Spring Season.

The 2018 Winter/Spring Coming of Age Group will be structured so that participants can delve into topics related specifically to aging as well as other issues that are are important to each individual via a combination of spiritual and psychological inquiry.

TOPICS TO BE EXPLORED
How do you see yourself? What is your relationship to aging? What are your fears about aging?
How are you recognizing and nourishing your vibrancy and aliveness?
What devaluing beliefs do you carry about women your age? How do you limit yourself as a result?
What is your experience of grief and loss?
What is your Soul’s desire and purpose?
How do you live a life of truth, beauty and wisdom?
What is important to you?

THE GROUP FORMAT
Group Sharing and Feedback
Body-centered inquiry
Interpersonal Exercises
Creative expression (no artistic talent necessary)

2018 WINTER/SPRING COMING OF AGE GROUP HAS 2 MEETING TIMES
The Coming of Age Group will meet 9 times for 2 hours every other Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Dates: January 24, 2018 through May 16, 2018
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: Berkeley
Cost: $45 per person per meeting

Hi Barbara. I am interested in this group and a 74-year-old lesbian who has certainly been feeling the challenges of aging!
I believe that a group for women of our age group is very essential to not only learning more about excepting where we are in life.
I can attend these sessions but find the $45 a little high so would like to suggest a more doable fee of $25-$30. What do you think about this? PIer

Glad to hear you are interested in the Coming of Age Group and would love to talk with you about. I have been talking with each of the women I don’t yet know who are interested in the group over the phone. We can talk about the group fee at that time. I am amenable to a fee that is doable for you. Are you available for a brief phone conversation in the near future?

Hi Barbara,
I am interested in the group and have two questions. How large will the group be? and is this a drop-in group or full commitment for the entire time? I’m asking because I would be missing about 3 of the meetings (intermittent, not 3 consecutive weeks) and I don’t want to pay for meetings I am unable to attend. Thanks.

Hi Lala,
Thanks for your email and interest in the Coming of Age group. The group consists of 7 meetings and is not a drop-in group. Every participant commits to pay for all of the meetings, like a tuition. If the group continues after this first pilot round, maybe the dates will work out better for you the next time. I hope so. If you like, we can arrange a telephone conversation to talk about the group and see if it is what you are looking for.

I am 1/2 block away from the 65 bus stop, however, I think it only runs until around 8:45 PM and the group goes until 9:30 PM.

Great….but I did notice that I misunderstood the dates, and I will be gone for the 2nd and 3rd meeting. If that’s poor timing for the group, I certainly understand, and could bow out. We will be selling the house and moving in early 2017 (Feb/Mar), so this just seemed a perfect send-off, but let me know. Love, L

Yes, please sit with it. I think I’m OK with missing two, esp #2 and #3 because then I have the last 4 continuously. But from your perspective, if the group is all women new to you or the group setting, it might be odd for them?? We could also talk about some individual sessions where you could share some of the spirit of the group. My last day of work (retirement) was last Wednesday, so I do feel the desire for a transition conversation that is both about aging and the next journey. Give it a few days and let me know where you land. Love, L
